Chadar Trek or Frozen River Trek in the Zanskar Valley is a wonderful as well as a challenging trek. It involves walking on the frozen river at subzero temperatures. It is an out of the world experience but you need to be very careful while doing the trek. Here are a few important things to keep in mind to do Chadar trekking

  • ACCLIMATIZE AND BUILD STAMINA
    Acclimatization is essential especially if you are a beginner. Before trekking, spend at least 2-3 days in North India’s winter so that your body can get used to the weather and high altitude. You should also start working out and build some stamina before you go for the Chadar trek as physical fitness is important too.
  • PROTECT YOUR FINGERS AND TOES
    The parts of the body that are most vulnerable to cold are the fingers and the toes. Don’t forget to carry waterproof woolen socks and gloves. You can also carry warming pads as they release heat and are very helpful in keeping you warm. 
  • THINGS THAT YOU SHOULD AVOID DOING ON THE TREK
    • Do not litter anywhere as it is the responsibility of every trekker to keep the valley clean
    • Never skip your meals and take a proper diet as there is a requirement of high energy during the trek
